As you pass 50 and some of us 60, something begins to stir within your spirit and you begin to think about your purpose., As one friend put it,

“…something dramatic begin to stir within my spirit.  I knew I would be savoring life and living more on-purpose from here forward.  I felt an increased sense of urgency.”.

Has that happened to you yet?  You begin to feel those stirring in your spirit.  You aren’t quite sure what they are or what to do with them.  You have no idea where you are going on this journey or what it might mean.  However, you are certain that something, somehow, somewhere is about to change.

For some of you the journey may be long and arduous to find your purpose.  In your 50’s, you may still be raising young children, working a job and caring for aging parents.  Who has time to search for what is next for herself?

Others of you, the nest has emptied, your body may be slowing down, or you may be even facing some chronic conditions. You begin to wonder what your body will even let you do.

You wonder, “What is in store for me next?”

Here are four things to consider for beginning your journey to knowing your purpose.

1. Journeying begins with the first step

Like all good trips, you don’t wake up one morning having already arrived at your destination.  You begin to dream about what that destination could be.  Or even where several destinations could be.  Finding your purpose for your second half, well-nourished life may have several stops along the way in order to discover what might really reasonate with your spirit.

2. Dreaming doesn’t require that you know where you are going

In creating a vision for your purpose, you don’t have to know where you are going or what the end might look like.  You just have to start.  That’s the fun part.

Giving yourself permission to start dreaming and imagining what you yourself might like to be, do and have in your future days is very freeing.  By allowing yourself time and space to reflect on where you’ve been and what you might desire, your mind begins to bubble with ideas.

3. Writing down and visualizing your dreams is your first step

Creating a vision board with pictures and/or keeping a running list of ideas and a picture file is a great place to start.  The nice part about creating a vision board with pictures that resonate with your heart and intentions is that it helps you brain begin to see and seek out ways to make those intentions happen.

As a coach, I help women create vision boards and the results of having vision boards have been astonishing.  Women don’t come with their visions and purpose, but they certainly leave with one.

4. Living with a purpose and a vision brings joy and a sense of intention to your days

Once you have articulated a sense of vision and purpose, you have more passion, direction, focus and motivation to your days.  Having purpose t brings down the chaos in your life because you have already pre-decided many of your choices and you know your own intentions.  You are clear on where you are going and how you want to get there

.
